Description
Butterfly valves are quarter-turn valves that use a circular disc to rotate through 90º to control flow. The disc remains in the fluid path when open, but there is relatively little pressure drop. An elastomer lining seat is used to obtain tight closure in all but the High Performance Butterfly Valves (HPBVs), which have a longer lasting seal and have other advantages that lead to long life.
Valves can be used to throttle flow, with the best sensitive results when open between about 15º and 70º. They are controlled with either a muliple-position handle, a gear operator, or an actuator. Electric and pneumatic actuators for all our butterfly valves are provided .
The common body types are lug style and wafer style, and flanged ends are used in some designs.
